Tidbits: Last Tide, Locusta, Artillery Breath, Day-After-Day-DC, etc.

battlezonebreathTwo really good touring metal bands (Locusta and Artillery Breath) from Ohio are coming through the DC/Silver Spring area this Thursday, August 27th, and you’d be a fool to miss them if metal is your game!

My friend Nate‘s new project on-the-rise, Last Tide, now has a preview of their forthcoming EP streaming on their MySpace. This stuff is really high-quality psychedelic shoe-gaze rock. Excellent melancholy, atmospheric rock music for fans of My Bloody Valentine, Built to Spill, Dinosaur, Jr., and even Morrisey (!?) — as well things more in the vein of this blog — Agalloch, 3rd & the Immortal, The Gathering, Star of Ash, Dead Can Dance, etc.  The guitar tones and melodies are super sick, thTHE TIDE IS INe trade-offs between male/female singers create good vocal dynamics, and the keyboard textures add a damp and nuanced atmosphere. Check out the awesome doom build-up at the end of “Shadows in the Rain”! An awesome asset to the Washington DC music scene, and I don’t just say that as a friend.

I’ve also been contributing to reviews over on my friend’s new blog, Day After Day DC, writing up underground shows from the DC punk/hardcore/metal scene.

I’m currently in the process of mixing down recorded live shows by area bands which will eventually go up on a website (to say nothing of my own awesome EP which is still being tracked (sigh)).
