Poetic Genii

I have a post about Tokuhibo Uwabo I’ve been working on, but I have to step out of town for a few days. In the mean time, feast your brains upon these:

“If anyone comes to the gates of poetry and expects to become an adequate poet by acquiring expert knowledge of the subject without the Muses’ madness, he will fail, and his self-controlled verses will be eclipsed by the poetry of men who have been driven out of their minds.” –Socrates

“Poetry fettered, fetters the human race. Nations are destroyed or flourish in proportion as their poetry, painting, and music are destroyed or flourish.” –William Blake

“If you learn music, you’ll learn history. If you learn music, you’ll learn mathematics. If you learn music, you’ll learn most all there is to learn.” –Edgar Cayce

“Music can minister to minds diseased, pluck from the memory a rooted sorrow, raze out the written troubles of the brain, and with its sweet oblivious antidote, cleanse the full bosom of all perilous stuff that weighs upon the heart” –Shakespeare

“Poetry, Painting & Music, the three Powers in Man of conversing with Paradise, which the flood did not sweep away.” –William Blake

“Let the mind be inspired by poetry, then given a firm foundation by the study of propriety, and finally perfected by music.” –Confucius

“There is geometry in the humming of the strings. There is music in the spacings of the spheres.” –Pythagoras

“A wise man seeks by music to strengthen his soul: the thoughtless one uses it to stifle his fears.” –Confucius

“I myself do nothing. The Holy Spirit accomplishes all through me.” –William Blake

“Emotions of any kind can be evoked by melody and rhythm; therefore music has the power to form character.” –Aristotle

“The highest goal of music is to connect one’s soul to their Divine Nature, not entertainment.” –Pythagoras

These may all sound obvious enough; but then again, those of us without the “poetic genius”… how can we even hope to understand the perspective of one in conversation with the daughters of Zeus? Wahh!!!
